FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONs ON RABBIT FARMING:

1. Why should i consider rabbit farming: rabbit farming is one of the
easiest ways to invest in the agricultural sector of the country and
also engage in food security measures as rabbit are medium body animal
that grows faster and make good animal protein for a family meal, with
rabbit farming you can easily turn your backyard to a barnyard and
make decent money selling rabbits to interested customers around you.

2. MINIMUM CAPILTAL TO STARTING UP A RABBIT FARM BUSINESS:  Well,
this question is based on choice of the breeder, if you want to start
small with let say 20 rabbits all together and grow it big with time
you can budget a total of fifty thousand (25,000) for the housing,
feeding and other important practices to keep the farm moving but if
you want to start on a large you can consider a total of #100,000 to
#150,000 and start with 100 rabbits.

3. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I FEED MY
RABBITS:
Rabbit are very active during the night than day and their
activeness and general well-being is a product of their feeding
efficiency, you are to feed then twice daily in the morning, and in
the eveningbut make sure you supply more feeds in the night than the
day.

 4. WHAT IS THE BEST HOUSING SYSTEM I SHOULD USE FOR MY RABBIT
FARM
: I have written  a post on this recently, rabbits are kept in
hutches (rabbit cages/box,) and the hutches are to be inside the
rabbitry in other to regulate the atmospheric condition and monitor
the development of the animal.

5. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE A RABBIT TO
REACH MATURITY
:  Rabbit matures between 4 to 5months but if you can get
the improved fast growing breeds with adequate feeding management they
can reach maturity at their 3rd month so you can see why they are good
for food security and they make fast meat.

 5. WHEN SHOULD I BREED MY
RABBIT FOR REPRODUCTION
:   This is simple when the rabbits reach
maturity you start seeing some signs which might includes been
troublesome or unstable in the female and willingness to join other
rabbits in the next hutch, red and swelling of the vulva if you notice
any of these signs then the rabbit is ready for  mating you can simply
carry the female to the male hutch for crossing and not vice-versa.

6. HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY RABBIT IS PREGNANT?

This is another major question so many ask me, research shows that fertilization and
formation of the foetus starts by 7days after mating and by 14th day
they babies are already moving inside the stomach region of the female
rabbit and some of the signs includes: increase in the body weight of
the mother rabbit, increased in feed consumption level, swelling of
the right side of the stomach, the female rabbit also sleeps in the
day than normal.

 6. HOW LONG DOES THEIR PREGNANCY LAST AND WHEN SHOULD
I BE EXPECTING A BABY RABBIT
: Rabbit gestation period if 30 to 31days
so which means their pregnancy last for a month making it possible for
you to  raise many of them within a year, when the day of kindling is
near, you must make a simple rectangular box available in the hutch of
the mother with enough spaces to run and play, the box is the Nest box
where the rabbit will give birth and nurse the baby till they are fully
matured.

 7. HOW CAN I MARKET MY RABBIT FOR INCOME:   This is another big
worry for those raising rabbit for money and most rabbit farmers,
there is need for a effective marketing of the rabbit because there
are many people out there with various health issues and they are
strictly under white meats which rabbit happens to be one so you can
sell them in the market, you can draw out a business proposali to big
eateries, hotels, schools, hospitals and researchers as they often
make use of rabbit for regular research work.

8. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I FEED RABBIT WITH GREENS AND CONCENTRATE:

Rabbit breeding are of two
types: the meat rabbit and the fateners so feeding wil be primarily
based on the kind of breeding you are into,
and also the reason why you'ev to start a rabbit and thses are the things that will keep you going always and make you succeed in the business.
You can feed them twice in a day with concentrate in the morning and with green grains in the evening and a regular practice will enhance their growth and generally well- being.
You can consult a vet doctor to prescribe for you how often you shoulf them with greens and he will give you a balanced feed formulate for rabbit, a formular that will enhance their growth.
